Shinko-ryu Kempo
Shinko-ryu literally translated means "new with old" school or way. This system is a highly effective method of self defense using techniques from a variety of striking and grappling arts. The end result is a Kempo program that is complete in every range of self defense. Students of Shinko-ryu learn to strike, kick, joint lock, as well as train in traditional and more modern weapons.
Unlike many martial arts where the students must conform to the art, the concept of Shinko-ryu allows the practitioner to adapt the techniques to their own physical abilities.
Jun Fan Gung Fu/Jeet Kune Do
Jeet Kune Do, literally translated is the "the way of the intercepting fist". It is the system of mixed martial art developed by the late Bruce Lee. It is a combat modified art that he developed strictly for self defense. JKD is a blended art composed of techniques, attributes, and principles from many other systems. This highly effective method of self defense addresses all four ranges of combat: Punching, Kicking, Trapping, and Grappling. The JKD student will develop such attributes as speed, agility, and economy of motion. There are no sporting elements, katas, or rituals in the training method. All classes are designed to help the student acquire the skills necessary to defend themselves if their safety is threatened.
Learn the art that made Bruce Lee famous from RI's only certified school of JKD.
Filipino Kali
Kali is an extremely intricate martial art that is becoming increasingly more popular in the United States. While teaching an entire spectrum of weaponry, Kali also teaches a highly sophisticated method of attribute development with the practice of endless flow drills. These flow drills develop hand speed, coordination, and timing.
Not limited to weapons exclusively, Kali is a complete art with a devastating method of empty handed fighting. Nerve destructions, elbow and knee striking, along with a complete arsenal of joint locking, sweeps and throws complete this art. Students of other martial arts who study Kali find that the emphasis on footwork, body mechanics, and angulations enhance their abilities in their respective arts. Hence the reason Kali is often referred to as the "art within the art".
Our Kali program at DAMA is composed of techniques, drills, and the training methods from various systems.
Uechi-ryu Karate
Uechi-ryu is a martial art that dates back to the temples of China. Originally known as Pangainoon Kenpo the art was renamed in 1948 as Uechi-ryu upon the death of Kanbun Uechi, the Okinawan who learned it in China.
Uechi-ryu is a system of in close fighting. It is taught in a very traditional manner with traditional methods. The format is very structured which makes Uechi-ryu easier to understand. The art itself, however, can take a lifetime to master. Unlike many other martial arts, Uechi-ryu is a hard and soft style. It can be practiced by anyone regardless of age or physical abilities.
